Kofi Osei-Owusu
I’m Kofi and I’m a co-founder at Yyoma. In my spare time, I love to paint and draw, and spend as much quality time with my wife and children as I can.
Before I founded Yyoma, I went to design school and did a degree in film-making Then I worked at the BBC, and even had my own successful creative consultancy business in Reading.
Education has always been extremely important to me. Growing up in a predominantly white school, I experienced first-hand the effects of a white, Euro-centri syllabus, and I struggled with self-esteem, thinking: where do I belong?
I’ve been lucky to be able to educate myself, to have the experience of designing my own brand, to have my own clothing business, using West African prints and patterns for inspiration.
With Yyoma, I want to bring the passion I have to the creative design side of the video content we offer, to make fun, inspiring, educational videos, to help create the space for other young black children to learn about themselves and their heritage, to make them truly happy in the world in which they live.
…
FYI: If I was stranded on a desert island and could only take three things with me, I’d take a tool box (to build things), a multimedia device, and an endless supply of pens, paint and paintbrushes, because I always love to create things. What would you take with you?
